Finland: The Soviet Vietnam

I really liked the idea, set out in a couple of the threads that Finland is, whilst no longer independent, still putting up a fight against its Soviet invaders.

Whether it's ghosts or spirits, or the Finns themselves who've somehow changed, it seems that the land itself rejects the invasion. Soldiers are sniped with bullets that pass through power armour like butter, and once the location of the shooter has been ascertained, they've long since melted into the snowy forest again. All attempts to dislodge them fail. Machines suffer no end of mechanical failures, bombs fail to go off, napalm-induced fires die, chemicals seem to be absorbed without effect. And so being assigned to Finland is punishment duty for Soviet soldiery. Even inside buildings and camps, it isn't safe, because sometimes They come in with knives and bayonets and clubs.

Basically, the way I see it, Finland won't be an international player, but a source of horror scenarios and a real nightmare for anyone trying to invade.

Ghosts do honestly sound pretty cool, along with the idea of a Norse flavoring.

Finland, a nation stuck between two great powers and a land of bitter winters stands against onslaught after onslaught of the Red Menace. As their German supporters began to bring forth hellish abominations and monsters from dimensions not seen before, the Finnish souls were brought back from the great Underworld, Tuonela. Faced with great vengeance, the guerrilla fighting and desperate Finns turned to the hordes of ghosts and massive beasts that brought down even the mightiest of Communist incursions. Old faiths arose, as the people began to resemble their ancestry along with mighty gifts and mutations of Gods, making them beast people with traits of mighty wolves and bears. Spirits arise in tanks and slaughter entire crews only to leave metal husks for their comrades. Dead pilots streak across the skies in semi material aircraft that much to many's wonder, strafe advancing columns. Men themselves ride wolves and pounce on scared conscripts that meet their untimely doom in a sea of their own blood. But the fight is not one of expansion nor is it for any belief other than the ones of keeping their lands out of the mittens of The Reich and The Accursed Soviets.
